Paranormal Activity CASE STUDY

Production Company: Paramount Pictures

Budget: $15,000

Gross: $107,917,283

Starring: Katie Featherstone, Micah Sloat

Production: The whole film was shot using a home video camera to add realism and also the production budget wasn't high so there wasn't much money to spent on production. Because the digital camera was always on a tripod or the actor was holding it there was no need for a big camera crew. The director said that the dialogue was ''natural'' because there was no real script. Instead, the actors were given outlines of the story and situations to improvise, a technique known as ''retroscripting'' also used in the making of The Blair Witch Project''. The film was filmed in only a week which is very short for making a movie.

Distribution: The production process wasn't anything special, the usual posters, adverts, trailer and t-shirtss. They advertised the movie well enough and gained the interest of the audience, the marketing seemed to be quite successful so a lot of people went to watch it in cinemas.
The first ever screening was in September 2009 in California, Hollywood. The audience was recorded and the clips were put together to create another video released to the internet.
